Fair Trade Software is not cost cutting off-shore development, but rather leveraged aid to help increase skills levels and reduce the trade imbalance in developing countries such as Kenya.
As with the use of Open Source software, the Fair Trade Software model can become part of corporate social responsibility - a trade system based on justice & fairness is better for everyone.
Co-development

Many customers would like to develop software themselves and have the basic skills required in-house, but lack the experience to cover all of the aspects of a project. Competa offers co-development, where we provide on the job training to your staff, and work with you to develop software at the same time.
Competa staff can work on-site at your location so that we can integrate with your team, or if you prefer we can work remotely from our own office, saving you the overhead of providing office space. We're flexible, and will work together with your staff in any way you want; we're not restricted to one method of service delivery.

At Competa we believe that there is a time and place for both commercial products and Open Source, or even a mixture of both. We will use, or advise you to use, products based on their suitability, not on our prejudices or reseller arrangements.
